Pair of candlesticks, Johannes Schiotling, 1785 Canvas Print
The candlesticks are round in cross-section. The straight-walled base has a flat top, over which runs a pearl border that surrounds the foot. This is built up in stages and consists of a low smooth part, a higher middle section over which a ribbon-bound wreath of bay leaves and berries runs and a vaulted, rejuvenating part with a decoration of two layers of laurel leaves laid on top of each other on a punched ground. Foot and trunk are separated by a nodus closed by profile edges, flat, decorated with acanthus leaves. The baluster-shaped trunk is decorated around the lower part with three acanthus peoples between which three oval medallions surrounded by leaves with antique portraits in a profile accustomed to the right: the first bearded and awarded, the second beardless and also prized and the third veiled. The trunk has a straight-walled crowning, from which three wound laurel garlands hang from nails. The arched top is decorated with stylized leaves. Above it, separated from the trunk by a convex profile, rises the candle holder, which has the shape of a stylized flower whose petals are held together by a band engraved with a pendulum edge on roughened ground. The loose grease trap is surrounded by a pearl border.
