Pavise with St Andrew’s Cross, anonymous, c. 1474 - c. 1475 Canvas Print

Burgundian shield with Andrew's cross. Elongated spherical shield with round top edge, sloping downwards and curly to a point that has been broken off. Above the tip two holes, presumably to confirm an iron tip to be able to plant the shield upright in the ground. The unpainted inside is equipped with four attachment points for leather straps; in the middle a diamond pattern of tacks, probably to attach a leather cushion. The painting on the front consists of a vertically divided in two long distance of white (left) and blue, on which a red Andreas cross, four yellow fire strokes, four white-black flints and many red flames.
