Photo album in black half leather clamp. The bracts are made of gold-colored decorative paper. The album contains 50 cardboard sheets with 628 photos. Typically, each page contains 6 to 8 prints of the same size. Occasionally, photos in panorama format are included. They are recordings made by a French amateur photographer from well-to-do circles. In the period 1896-1904 he/she made trips with travel companions in France, Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands where many sights were recorded: churches, palaces, forts, castles, ruins, viaducts, bridges, landscapes, villages and cities. They also witnessed the celebration of Mardi Gras and the visit of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and Tsarina Alexandra Fyodorovna to Paris (1896). The company travelled by car, at that time a novelty. Many times this new means of transport, often surrounded by curious bystanders, has been captured by the photographer. The first car races also come into the picture, including those from Paris to Amsterdam and vice versa (1898), which led the travelling party to Nijmegen. Baroness Hélène van Zuylen van Nijevelt van de Haar also participated in this last race, one of the first Frenchwomen to have a driver's license. She too comes into the picture. The photographer was probably one of the Delizy brothers, co-owner of distillery Delizy & Doistau Fils in Pantin (now Paris) who was in possession of cars early on and also photographed them (see photo album RP-F-F01164). Delizy participated in the paris-amsterdam-paris race as a tour driver, at the time referred to in French newspapers as 'Les touristes'. As a result, he was present on the spot to make the recordings of the 'real' competition riders that are captured in the album.
