Photo album with recordings of streets, squares and canals in Amsterdam and of the 25th anniversary of the reign of King William III in 1874 , various makers, c. 1850 - c. 1875 Canvas Print
Photo album in red leather strap with copper lock. The front and back cover are decorated with a coat of arms and frames in relief. The flyleaves are made of changeant paper. The album contains 24 thick cardboard sheets of gold on cut with a total of 48 cabinet photos in passe-partouts. Of these, 37 have a caption above and/or below the passe-partout. The majority of the cabinet photos on the back also have an inscription (often in two different manuscripts) that largely corresponds in content to that on the passe-partout. The album gives a picture of Amsterdam in the third quarter of the nineteenth century: streets, squares, canals and buildings. The decorations and gates that were erected in the capital on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the reign of King William III in 1874 are also discussed.
