Portrait of a member of the Barbarigo family and the personifications of Modesty, Rationality and Comprehension, Robert van Audenaerd, 1673 - 1743 Canvas Print

Pedestal in the shape of a cartouche. On top a medallion with on the front the portrait of a member of the Barbarigo family, presumably Francesco Maria. On the back the Sacra Rota in session. Around the pedestal three female personifications. On the left the personification of Modesty (Discretione). She has raised her left hand and has a pliable lead ruler in her right hand. A camel has its head on its knee. The woman in the middle is the personification of Rationality. She sits thoughtfully and has her index finger on her knee in the book. In her left hand a still empty banderol. On the right the personification of Comprehension (Apprehensiva), with mirror and chameleon. The print is part of an album.
