Portrait of Arrigo of Muggia and the personification of Fame, Robert of Audenaerd, 1673 - 1743 Canvas Print
Pedestal in the shape of a cartouche. On it a medallion with on the front the portrait of Arrigo of Muggia, the progenitor of the Barbarigo family. According to legend, Arrigo defended the city of Muggio against the Saracens. He cut off his opponents' beards and thus earned his nickname Barba-Arrigo. Arrigo is depicted in armor, with laurel wreath. Around his neck a chain of Saracen beards. On the back, Arrigo cuts off the beards. Above that the text: A Victoria Nomen. Above the pedestal, Faam draws the coat of arms of the Barbarigo family. An eagle holds the inkwell. With a palm branch in its other claw, the eagle is here the symbol of power and victory. The pedestal is flanked by two coats of arms. To the left that of the city of Muggia. The print is part of an album.
