Portrait of Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658) in an architectural frame with allegorical figures and historical representations. Cromwell is half-represented, in armour, fesenes on both sides with symbols of struggle and of England. At the top personifications of Fame, the reigning Love and the History of Historiography. Left Faith, Right Hope. At the bottom left the robbing and blowing up of merchant ships. On the right an allegorical performance in which Cromwell is crowned by the dragon 'griffin bird' with the papal tiara while oppressing the Dutchman, the Frenchman, the Scotsman and the Irishman.
