Portrait of the artist Maria de Wilde, Pieter van den Berge, in or after 1700 - c. 1730 Canvas Print

Maria de Wilde (1682-1729) had a talent for drawing, engraving and painting, but she also possessed a gift for singing, harpsichord play and poetry. At 17, she was praised for her "desire" for science. Maria spent a lot of time in her father's art cabinet, which was an internationally renowned collector of antiquities. Of the more than 700 visitors who came to see his collection between 1690 and 1720, Tsar Peter the Great was the most famous. Maria recorded his first visit, on December 13, 1697, in an engraving. Here she is pictured in the cabinet herself. She shows the catalogue of antique sculptures from her father's cabinet, Signa Antiqua, for which she has provided the illustrations. With a poem in Latin by David Franzn.van Hoogstraten.
