Railway bridge over the Yamuna near Allahabad, Samuel Bourne, 1865 - 1874 Canvas Print
This railway bridge connects the banks on either side of the Yamuna, just before the river flows into the Ganges. The bridge was completed in 1865 and, with its 1006 metres (3300 feet), is considered a great achievement of British engineering. This bridge created a connection between the hooghly railway lines at Kolkata on the right bank and Yamuna near Delhi, making ferries unnecessary.
