Redevelopment of the western courtyard in 1929, 1929 Canvas Print

Western courtyard seen from an easterly direction with a view of a part of a large organ in the background. Work during the redesign of the courtyard with a view of, among other things, empty display cases and door panels. The concrete floor was completed around May 1. The right courtyard was decorated with the .b an exhibition, for which the walls have been painted, radiators have been moved, the oak windows and arched fields have been cleaned, lacquered and oiled, linoleum laid. Western courtyard, after the renovation. On the left you can see the south wall of the courtyard with the natural stone balcony (of the city hall from The Hague) on the first floor. On the right the west wall with two sculptures by Bart van Hove and on the right one of the organs. The wooden floor in the courtyard gave so many problems that it was replaced by a concrete floor in 1927. This created a low basement, 2.25 meters, and the raised exhibition floor that can be seen in this photo. With half-stone walls, three rooms were then set up in the courtyard. The original facades of the courtyard were hidden from view by a low ring wall. In the intervening space there was a 'proliferation of canals and pipes'. The walls are painted white. Furthermore, part of the skylight can be seen that has covered the western courtyard since 1893 and that was carried by iron trusses
