Réunion des Tuileries au Louvre, album 4, Édouard Denis Baldus, 1854-1857 Canvas Print
Photo album in green leather cover. On the front and back is the coat of arms of the French emperor Napoleon III, in the corners his monogram. The title and the part number are mentioned on the back strap. The bracts are made of green changeant with a border decoration of French lilies in gold print. The album contains 99 sheets of gold on cut that each contain one to three photos. The album is part of an ensemble of four with which the construction of the new Louvre between 1854 and 1857 was documented step by step on behalf of the French government. The albums were offered as representation copies to the emperor, friendly heads of state, ministers (such as the copy of the Rijksmuseum) and libraries. 36 such sets were put together, each with about 550 photos. Only four ensembles have survived.
