Rocks, waves and the rising moon, Kubota Shunman, c. 1890 Canvas Print
An emerging moon behind waves splashing up the rocks. This image is based on a passage from the Tosa diary: "We saw the moon at the edge of a mountain, but it rose from the waves and went down in the waves." With one poem: "As we look, the waves come and go, just like fragrant Spring flowers in the moonlight." This print is a copy from the late Meiji period (1868-1912).
