Room on the 1st floor where breakthrough to Eastern courtyard will be made, 1965 Canvas Print
Rembrandt pupils' room. In 1964 the renovation of this courtyard was started. Two floors were constructed, resting on prestressed concrete beams. As a result, unlike the installation of the Western courtyard, which opened in 1962, the layout of the space was not determined by the supports of a steel skeleton. All passageways to the courtyard were completed in 1965. On the upper floor, two rooms were made that were connected to the surrounding painting rooms. The remaining space was carried out as an exhibition space. The first floor remained a free space with a circular balcony for the Dutch History department, which was opened together with the renovated surrounding halls in October 1971. The ground floor was entirely intended for study collections of the Department of Paintings, Sculpture and Arts and Crafts and Dutch History. This part, as far as paintings and crafts are concerned, opened in 1974. On the photo you can see on the right the temporary wall behind which the connection with the Eastern courtyard will be made.
