Saint Peter, Artus Quellinus (I), 1658 - 1659 Canvas Print
Terracotta preliminary study for the marble Peter statue of Artus Quellinus in the Andrieskerk in Antwerp (1658); the front precisely worked out, the rear more global in finish; two venting holes. Peter stands next to the inverted cross, which refers to his martyrdom. At the foot of it stands a crowing rooster, the emblem of his denial of Jesus in the Garden of Olives.
