Saint Ursula and her Virgins, Hendrik Douverman, c. 1520 Canvas Print
The saint stands with the weight on her left leg and the right diagonally placed forward on a grassy ground. She reads in a book of pouches, which she holds in her left hand. In her other hand, she probably held an arrow. At her feet, in two groups, of three and of four, are her companions. The two outer figures pull the slips of Ursula's cloak around them. At right back, a seventh figure is hiding. Ursula wears a gown with a square neckline, under which the pleated shirt can be seen; to the means a scarf. On the long, wavy hair a beret, which is decorated with two rows of beads and a large feather. The companions wear approximately equal gowns. The woman on the far right in the left group has a headdress of braided branches.
