Sand dumps in the construction pit of shelter B in Heemskerk, 1939 - 1941 Canvas Print
The entrance of cellar B. The construction pit is filled with sand. About 25,000 cubic meters of sand were leased for these cellars. The bomb-free cellars were built in 1940, after the shelters in North Holland villages turned out not to be safe. The museum's collection parts were evacuated there in 1939. In 1941 the new cellars were put into use.
