Sash, anonymous, c. 1798 Canvas Print
Dark-colored ribbon with fringes of gilded silver and a wavy line of gilded silver thread along the edges. Embroidered in the middle with gold-plated silver thread, the inscription REPRESENTANT. The ribbon is made of a layer of velour or velvet mounted on a layer of linen with a molton lining. The velour is very worn out and actually only the ground fabric is left. Traces of the velvet are still visible along the letters. The original color of the ribbon may have been dark brown or black.
