Second interlude: hellish beings prepare to avenge Circe, Jacques Callot, 1617 Canvas Print
On a stage with burning ruins and towers (a representation of hell) there is a great devil flanked by two smaller ones in the foreground. Demons on the left and right behind them, set up in two rows; here and there in the air, on the water and on the buildings in the background also many devilish creatures. Below the performance a line of Italian text. This print is part of a series of three performances by intermezzi in the play 'La Liberazione di Tirenno, e d'Arnea' by Andrea Salvadori, as performed during the carnival in Florence in 1616.
