Silk map used as pilot's scarf, anonymous, 1940 - 1945 Canvas Print

Silk map used as pilot's scarf, anonymous, 1940 - 1945 Canvas Print

Map of silk, from the English Air Force (RAF). The fabric is printed on two sides with the maps, 44 A and 44 B of Burma, part of French Indo China, part of Siam, now Thailand, part of India and part of China. The silk maps were intended for pilots and crew members of the RAF. Due to the material, these were light, resistant to water and the humid climate in general. The card is an additional donation on NG-2000-5 the so-called maps dress. This house coat was made in Indonesia by Mrs. Terwen de Loos from silk maps that were popular for making clothes after the liberation due to the textile scarcity. This additional donation gives a good idea of the original function of the silk maps.
