Six-Pounder Shot, Joseph Whitworth, 1861 Canvas Print
Whitworth grenade for a zesponder. The term garnet, although usual for this projectile, is not correct, because it does not carry an explosive charge; it's actually a bullet. It is made of solid iron and has an elongated oval shape with a flattened base; in the sides, six oblique oval impressions are made; these follow a screw movement, which gives the ball its rotational movement in a barrel with hexagonal drawn soul.
