Sixteen European currencies, Jacques Callot, 1662 Canvas Print
Sixteen European coins, depicted in three columns - one column of 6 coins and two columns of 5 coins. This print is part of a series of ten prints with representations of coins that were put into circulation in Europe between 1522 and 1629, mainly in Germany and Italy. The front and back of each coin are shown side by side, connected by a cartouche with the letters AR (argentum - silver) or AV (aureum - gold). The silver coins cover the first nine sheets and a part of the tenth sheet, which otherwise shows mainly gold coins.
