Sleepless nights for the prosecutor, Cornelis Galle (I), c. 1595 - c. 1597 Canvas Print
In the night, the prosecutor (Litigiosus) prepares his trial. He is assisted by Restlessness (Inquies cordis) who provides light with a candle and keeps the man awake with a rattle. Meanwhile, Anxiety (Anxia cura) chases the personification of Sleep (Sopor) out the door with a whip made of bats. A rooster in front of the prosecution's bed indicates his turmoil. The print has three captions (two in Latin and one in Dutch) and is part of an eight-part series on the abuses in litigation.
