Slip Hook for Lifeboats, anonymous, anonymous, c. 1859 Canvas Print
Iron slip hook with ring for the lifeboat. The slip hook consists of two opposite hooks, rotating around the same axis; on the outside, both hooks have an eye, which is attached to a ring at the top with a chain link. In the hooks is a heavy iron ring, which must be attached to the lifeboat. The slip hook is designed in such a way that when the weight of this heavy ring is taken, the hooks open automatically, pulled sideways by the chain links on the upper ring.
