A soldier on guard, at his feet out, to the right, holding a musket (a certain type of firearm) by his right side, his left hand around the fork of the furket (musket fork) on which the barrel, tilted upwards, rests (no. 38), ca. 1600. In his left hand also a burning fuse. With his right hand, the soldier takes off his hat. Plate 38 in the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderrechtinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, so much aengaet the right ghebruyck vant Musquet.
