A soldier on guard, feet out, to the right, holding a rudder (a certain type of firearm) with his left hand (no. 40), c. 1600. With his right hand, he presses a burning fuse on the rooster (part of the ignition mechanism) of his rudder. It is therefore the same position as the one shown on the seventh print of the series. Plate 40 in the instructions for handling the rudder: Corte onderwysinghe on the figuerliicke imagehe, important t'straight ghebruyck des Roers.
