Steel needle lace with single mesh soil formed by retrieved feston stitches, anonymous, c. 1925 - c. 1929 Canvas Print
Steel natural-colored needle side with an Alençon soil. Study material. The application of this type of mesh soil with single meshes formed by collected feston stitches was characteristic of Alençon sides until around 1800. Later, other mesh soils were also used in Alençon sides. The edges of the steel are finished with feston stitches. The sample is accompanied by a fragment of Alençon lace in which the technique has been applied (see the fragment at BK-NM-14365-WW).
