Strip of black machined lace with diamond-shaped cartouches, anonymous, c. 1880 - c. 1899 Canvas Print
Strip of black machined lace: machine Chantilly lace. The repetitive and almost symmetrical pattern consists of a succession of diamond-shaped cartouches just below the middle line of the strip. Each pane is topped by a narrow feather-shaped leaf on c-volutes averted from each other. Between the windows hangs a leaf garland with one rosette flower and a loose rose branch above it and mushs. At the bottom runs behind the windows along a straight horizontal track. On this track, between the successive panes, there are three longer half-ovals with dots in them. On each half oval hangs a straight downward hanging feather-shaped leaf or cornear, alternately with and without round cutouts in the middle. The motifs are connected by a mechanical tulle soil. The scallop edge consists of narrow deep scallops and are formed by the hanging ears of corn. Part of the underside with the feather-shaped leaves has been cut off and probably used to finish the short sides of the corresponding strip with number BK-1979-272-A. The top of the strip is straight finished.
