Sultan Ahmed III, Jean Baptiste Vanmour, c. 1727 - c. 1730 Canvas Print
Portrait of Sultan Ahmed III (1673-1736), accompanied in the open air by two servants. In the background we see trees with some buildings on the left. This may have to represent the harem part of the sultan's palace, the Topkapı Sarayı. Ahmed III wears a fur-lined caftan and a turban called kâtibî. This type of turban was draped around a flat headgear and decorated with a fan-shaped piece of jewelry. The sultan's belt is also richly occupied with jewels, as is the ceremonial staff he holds in his right hand.
