Tablecloth with the Sacrifice of Abraham, Quirijn Jansz. Damast (possibly), c. 1625 - c. 1649 Canvas Print
Tablecloth of linen damask with the Sacrifice of Abraham. Midfield: the symmetrical pattern shows five scenes from bottom to top: 1 Isaac kneeling at a stake behind which Abraham with sword, which is stopped by an angel. 2 Abraham bareheaded, kneeling, with an incense vessel before an altar from which smoke rises, in which the word of God rises in unclear letters; above it a ram, emerging from the thickets. 3 Abraham, in a long cloak, on a bench, addressed by angels; in the background a house with a wife in front of it (Sarah?) and the words: GEN. CAPT. XXII. Above that follows a repetition of the scenes 1 and 2. Standing and reclining edges: symmetrical flower vines and birds; outside of that block edge. Zoom: double open hem on the short sides.
