The blind leads the blind, Johann Theodor de Bry, 1596 Canvas Print
Three blind people in pilgrim's clothing walk behind each other. The rear man carries a child in a basket on his back. The front one falls into a ditch, on which the others will follow (variation on biblical proverb "if a blind man leads a blind man, they shall both fall into a well" Matthew 14:15). In the background on the right an inn and on the left a church. Emblem No. 18 in Emblemata Saecularia, 1596 and No. 39 in the second edition of 1611.
