The Night Watch Room after the renovation of 1983/1984, 1984 Canvas Print
Night watch room seen to the southeast with right on the south wall view of the Night Watch. Rectangular room with a circular brick koof on a cornice, which encloses a glass overhead light. The renovation of 1983/1984 has just been completed here. The aim has been to restore the original situation to its former reals. For good lighting of the Night Watch, a new lowered overhead light has been hung in the room. The original overhead light has been renewed. The raveel construction of the skylight is still original and consists of composite iron beams (riveted), which is carried by four marble columns with caryatids. These have been brought back into view by removal of the panelling. The caryatids represent the morning, the day, the evening and the night. The painted decoration on, the frieze is a narrowed reconstruction. Originally, the decoration was much more extensive and contained, among other things, the most important dates from Rembrandt's life. The koof is divided into boxes, the lower of which were decorated with Renaissance motifs. The floor finish has been changed many times, the current finish consists of parquet.
