The Seven Deadly Sins, anonymous, 1540 - 1567 Canvas Print
Devilish figure, composed of body parts of different animals, as a personification of the seven deadly sins. Standing in a niche. The lion's head symbolizes pride, the dragon's eyes represent the Wrath, the absence of the right hand refers to the Avarice and the buttocks of a boar is the Unchastity. On either side of the head the text: Figura de septe peccatis mortalibus. The way in which the monster is presented partly goes back to a poem by Hans Sachs: 'Der Eygennutz, das Grewlich Thier', 1535. At the bottom of text in Dutch in three columns.
