The shop of the Pope of Rome, ca. 1615. Allegory of oppression by the Catholic Church. On the right sits the pope with the seven-headed dragon with the whore of Babylon and worldly princes on a leash. On the backgrounds heretic burnings and executions. At the pope's feet, Emperor Barbarossa kneels. On the left the Dutch Virgin with the Dutch Lion in the Dutch Garden. Pallas is with a group of reformed princes, including Maurice, the Duke of Brandenburg. In the background the complaining peasants of Jülich and Cleves. Wolfgang Willem of the Palatinate-Neuburg also has a role in the text. Glued under the representation a sheet with 5 columns of text in Dutch.
