Travel album Dutch East Indies with 200 photos, anonymous, Woodbury & Page, 1850 - 1880 Canvas Print
Photo album with 200 photos on 25 sheets with plug-in pass-partouts in carte-de-visite format. 2 photos are set up separately. The photographs, mainly portraits and some cityscapes, relate to the former Dutch East Indies in the period 1850-1900. Portrayed are mainly: Chinese, Singaporeans (especially by Lambert &Co), Indonesians (by Woodbury &Page) and Japanese (by an anonymous photographer). The first photo is a portrait of Governor-General Pieter Mijer. Most people are portrayed with merchandise, in uniform or traditional clothing, or during a ritual. The diversity in age, gender and actions is great, making it a representation of the East and Southeast Asian population during that period. Attached is a handwritten list of descriptions per photo.
