Triumphal Chariot of the World, Cornelis Cort, 1564 - 1633 Canvas Print

Triumphal Chariot of the World, Cornelis Cort, 1564 - 1633 Canvas Print

Triumph wagon with broken wheels, pulled by two winged horses. The right horse has the sun on its head and represents the day (Dies); the left horse is the night (Nox) and has a crescent moon on the head. The car is shunned by time as an old man with scyth and hourglass. On the four corners of the cart are the personifications of the four elements: Ignis, Terra, Aer and Aqua with their attributes. In the middle of a stand is the globe. In the clouds, the four winds blow. Print from a series of nine prints with triumphal cars from the Antwerp Circumcision bypass of 1561.
