Two laughing jesters, Pieter Xaveri, 1673 Canvas Print
One sits on an inverted basket three-quarters to the right and with the head to the left, the other, with the head in the same direction, stands with his knees bent behind him with his hands on his shoulders; both cans go in the same direction. They have convex, smiling faces with open mouths, in which tongue and teeth are visible. The seated jester points forward with the right hand and holds a stick with bubbles (karwats with bubbles ?) in front of the chest with the other. On his cheek is a wart. He wears around the neck saggy jester's cap with decorated hem, on which bells, and over a rug with narrow sleeves a cloak with wide flared sleeves, the judge of which mounts a staff with a jester's head. The cloak covers his entire left leg, but leaves the right one with trouser leg free. The latter has a decorated band with bells under the knee, is strapped together at the ankles and falls over the boot. On the head of the standing figure a jester's cap with donkey ears, the wide collar as well as the hood of which has a decorated hem; on collar and donkey ears hang bells. His wide cloak, held together by a decorated girdle, falls open to the side, so that the trouser leg of the curved right leg can be seen. This is put in the boot and shows a kneecap in the shape of a mask, decorated with bubbles.
