The performance shows Father Time pensively at a table on which there is an hourglass and a skull with a laurel wreath, the portraits of Johan and Cornelis de Witt and some open books lie. The books are Vondel's 'Palamedes of Murdered Onnozelheyt' and 't Leven der Doorluchtige Griecken Romeynen' by Plutarch. Under the right foot of Time lies the torn 'Eewig Edict', next to it two extinguished torches and a snake. In the background above a gate the effigy of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt.
