Verbeelding van het proverb 'Bezint eer ge begint', 1674, anonymous, 1673 - 1674 Canvas Print

Moralistic performance that is sometimes interpreted as a cartoon on the Arminians or on the counts of Egmond and Hoorne. Recorded by Muller as possibly a cartoon on the bishop of Munster or Prince Wilhelm von Fürstenberg, based on the note of the date 1674 3/24 (March 24) on the print. The inscription in the middle 'Sy teaches to keep maet, in al datmen doet en siet' indicates the subject of the performance better. The subject can also be expressed as: 'Think before you begin' or 'He works himself into a corner'. Despite the warnings of an old man, a young man dives into the wide opening of a large horn. Then, however, it gets stuck in the narrow end. On the right, a smiling jester looks out the window. See also the interpretation of the 'horn creeper'. With seven verses in the performance.
