Vijzel with inscription HENRICK TER HORST ME FECIT DAVENTRIAE ANNO 1631, Henrick ter Horst, 1631 Canvas Print
The cast round auger widens upwards, has a high cantilevered and profiled edge and a profiled base, which is arranged higher than the bottom of the object. On the edge in Latin majuskels the inscription HENRICK TER HORST ME FECIT DAVENTRIAE ANNO 1631 with punctures consisting of a diamond (seven times) and three diamonds. The wall is divided in half above the middle by a sharply profiled rib. The upper frieze is made up of three-pass arches, on which there are bunches of grapes and vine leaves hanging around and around. The lower frieze shows bunches of grapes surrounded by a cartouche, flanked by two naked female figures with, among other things, a branch in hand. The cartouche ends in stylized tendril work of two volutes, in which, among other things, bunches of grapes are included. The entire motif is repeated less than twice. At the bottom, the frieze is closed by a stylized wound pearl and cord edge.
