Virgin and Child, anonymous, c. 1350 Canvas Print
Mary stands on the left leg with the right knee slightly forward. She holds the child placed in profile on the left arm, causing her upper body to lean slightly in the opposite direction. In the right hand she holds a part of a flower stalk; her somewhat mask-like face shows a smile. The child has a bird (dove?) near a wing in one hand and holds up part of Mary's cloak with the other. On her veil a crown with fleurons, between which roses are applied; on the left hand a ring. She wears a dress with sleeves and round neckline, drooping to the ground, leaving the tips of the footwear. From the shoulders hangs the spacious cloak, which is struck to the right and is held up by the child on the inside, so that the mantle tip falls back to the left again. The child wears a long robe with sleeves over a undergarment.
