Wedding procession on the Bosphorus, Jean Baptiste Vanmour, c. 1720 - c. 1737 Canvas Print
Along the Asian shores of the Bosphorus, a colorful procession accompanies a bride to her groom's house. The bride rides a horse, under a canopy worn by four men. Directly in front of the tent is the imam, who will annul the wedding. One could hear the procession coming from afar because of the music. The pyramid-shaped tower, made of golden branches in the form of corn ears, is a symbol of fertility. On the other side the castle of Rumeli Hisari.
