Whore seduces man, Johann Theodor de Bry, 1596 Canvas Print
A naked whore lies on a four-poster bed and has literally 'tied' a gentleman. She pulls him on a cord, which is attached to his ankle, towards herself, aided by an old matchman who pushes him to the bed. The woman's clothing lies on the left side of a chair. Flowers lie on the ground. The accompanying text is a warning against fornication and refers to the status of the woman: "for the whore is a deep pit, the lewd a narrow pit" (Proverbs XXIII, verse 27). Emblem no. 28 in Emblemata Saecularia, 1596 and no. 7 in second edition 1611.
