Willem Bilderdijk (1756-1831), Jean Theodor Stracké, c. 1877 Canvas Print
He stands on a plinth on the right leg and with the left one facing forward. The head is slightly to the left, he looks in front of him in his mind. With the right wrist, he holds up the beatinged cloak under the chest, while in his hand he has a goose pen; in the drooping left hand he holds a book with the index finger between the pages. To his right a three-sided taboo with square sheet (sic.), on which two books lie next to an ink cooker; under the books is a curling sheet of paper and on the back hangs a rug. The tabooret recalls a Roman altar and shows a swan with a receding neck on every corner and a lyre on the side in relief. Bilderdijk has short, curly hair and favorites. He wears a wide cloak with wide lapel with a slightly raised collar from behind and with sleeves knocked back at the bottom; below a frak with large buttons and a cardigan, both with raised collar. The shirt, of which a cuff can be seen briefly near the cloak sleeve, has a jabot struck to the right and a high collar, around which a wide cravate is wound. He wears stockings and shoes with blunt noses and bows. Low, on the corners truss truss with the signature on the right: JOH. TH. STRACKE 's BOSCH
