Shown is the moment that the prince takes the oath of allegiance to the registrar of the States-General, Gaspar Fagel. Behind it hangs a canvas depicting the Dutch Virgin in the Dutch Garden, between columns with portrait busts of William of Orange, Prince Maurits, Frederik Hendrik and William II. Two small scenes in the background show the banquet and the fireworks held in honor of the prince's appointment.
