Woman Playing the Virginal, Jan Miense Molenaer, c. 1637 Canvas Print
The virginal player. Interior with a young woman playing on a virginal. The lid of the instrument is painted with a representation of a pair in a landscape, on the lid sits a monkey. Behind the virginal are a boy and a girl, presumably a younger brother and sister of the painter. On the right a look through to a man standing in the doorway. From the ceiling hangs a birdcage. Formerly interpreted as a portrait of Judith Leyster, the wife of the painter, with her children.
