Wrong belief alienates the world from the truth, Dirck Volckertsz. Coorn deer, 1575 - 1581 Canvas Print
A man with a fool's hood is the personification Foolish World (Mundus Fascinatus). He is enchanted by Wrong Conviction (Opinio), a woman with two glasses on her forehead. She reads magic formulas from a book. Around Foolish World a magic circle has been drawn with the symbols of the seven planets, as well as a holy water brush, a convex mirror and a burning candle. The Personification Truth (Veritas) tries to help Foolish World, but is attacked with a sword by the enchanted Foolish World. In the background, Justice plunges down from a rock. The print has a Latin and a Dutch caption and is part of a four-part series on the subject of how wrong conviction destroys the world.
