Zinneprent on the tyranny of Alva (incomplete), 1618, anonymous, 1618 Canvas Print
Incomplete copy of a satirical print comparing the government of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt in 1618 to the tyranny of the Duke of Alva in the years 1567-1573. In the missing top part of the performance, Johan van Oldenbarnevelt sits around a table with his supporters including Gilles van Ledenberg. By folding the top half of the print, it is revealed that the portraits correspond to the Duke of Alva with the Blood Council, including Cardinal Granvelle, Brother Cornelis and some bishops, in the background the execution of Egmond and Horne in 1568. The print includes a dialogue between Beste-maet, who sees Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, and Botte-maet, who sees Alva.
