Zoilus sits by a set table, Justus van den Nijpoort, 1635 - 1692 Canvas Print
The philosopher Zoilus sits at a richly set table on which a pie stands and other bowls of food. At the back right, a servant arrives with a pie on a platter. Three dogs stand in front of Zoilus. On the wall hangs a sign with the saying in Latin: There is no arguing about taste. Zoilos was a philosopher of c. 400 BC, criticizing Plato, Iskrates, and Homer. Because of his criticism of Homer, he is also called 'Homeromastix'.
